Our Pilates sessions incorporate mat work and specialized equipment like Reformers, Chairs, and Barrels. The exercises blend strengthening and stretching with a focus on core engagement, proper alignment, coordinated breathing, and smooth transitions between movements. ​The most recent addition to my training repertoire is Yoga. There are many styles and lineages of Yoga that are beneficial to both the human body and the human experience. I have focused my practice on The Baron Baptiste Vinyasa style and decided to take the next step and complete his 200 RYT in February of 2019.

Pilates can support your quest to eat healthy, as it has a mindfulness component that can help you make more conscious choices about the food you eat.

But make sure to not overdo it. Just because you have a “problem” area you want to target, does not mean you should be spending your workouts only focussing on that area.

The term “toning” as applied to exercise was likely introduced to the fitness world as a marketing term. Its purpose? To encourage women to do strength training during decades when the concept of gaining muscle bulk was considered unfeminine and therefore off putting to women.

Pilates simultaneously strengthens and stretches your entire body in a low-impact format. Think resistance training meets yoga, with added emphasis on precision and breathwork.

This allowed me to experience various styles of high-level conditioning. Working with fighters I was able to experiment with and develop real-world functional conditioning programs and hybrid-style strength movements using body weight, kettlebell, and other functional implements.

However, even practicing Pilates once a week can still provide benefits, especially when combined with other forms of exercise.

So, again, there aren’t any if you look at this medically! Muscle definition occurs as a result of increasing the amount of muscle mass relative to the amount of body fat you have.
